Cena in Fattoria — Sat Jun 6 at 18:30 · Castello di Verrazzano · booked via book.verrazzano.com
A relaxed overnight into the heart of Chianti Classico country. Leave the Arezzo villa after a proper Saturday morning — coffee, no rush — and arrive in Greve in Chianti by late morning in time for the Saturday market in Piazza Matteotti, a wander through the arcaded square, and lunch. The evening is the centerpiece: a three-hour guided dinner at Castello di Verrazzano — the 16th-century estate of the Florentine explorer who discovered New York Harbor — with the estate's wines, cellars, and a full Tuscan table. Sunday is unhurried: breakfast at the hotel, optional Panzano detour, and back to the villa by midday.

Saturday, June 6 Market · Chianti · Cena in Fattoria
~9:30–10:30 AM Depart Arezzo Villa — after breakfast and coffee

No alarm. Saturday morning at the villa: coffee, whatever's in the kitchen, and leave when you're ready. The goal is Greve by around 11–11:30 so there's time for the market before it winds down. The SR 69 route through Figline Valdarno is a beautiful drive — Chianti hills begin opening up once you cross north of the Arno.

~11:00–11:30 AM Arrive Greve — Park & Walk to Piazza

Greve is a small town — you won't get lost. Park near the hotel (Viale Vittorio Veneto 82) and walk the short distance to Piazza Matteotti.

🅿 Parking — One Car
Public parking, Viale Vittorio Veneto area — steps from the hotel. ~€2/hr. The town is small; the main lot is clearly marked off the Viale. No ZTL in Greve.  Google Maps →
💡 Check In
Standard check-in at Casa Al Sole is 2pm. Leave bags at the hotel on arrival and pick up your keys later — the staff are accommodating and the hotel is small and informal.
~11:30 AM Saturday Market — Piazza Matteotti

The Saturday morning market fills Piazza Matteotti regularly throughout the year — produce, local cheese, salumi, bread, and seasonal goods from the farms of the Chianti. The square itself is worth the trip regardless: a distinctive triangular piazza ringed by deep stone arcades, with shops and cantinas tucked under the loggias selling wine, olive oil, and ceramics. Arrive by 11:30 to catch the market while it's still lively.

Enoteca Falorni sits right on the piazza — one of the best wine shops in Chianti, with a tasting room and an exceptional selection of Chianti Classico from small producers. Worth stepping in even if you buy nothing. This is the real thing, not a tourist operation.

~1:00 PM Lunch in Greve or Panzano

Two good options depending on appetite and mood:

A
Stay in Greve
In town · 0 min
Greve has a handful of honest restaurants around the piazza. Lunch in the shade of the arcades with a carafe of local Chianti is exactly right. Keep it light — there's a serious dinner ahead at 18:30.
B
Panzano in Chianti — Dario Cecchini
~8 km south · 15 min
Chianti's most famous butcher — Dario Cecchini quotes Dante while carving some of the best meat in Tuscany. Dario DOC does informal communal-table lunch; Solociccia is the full-on carnivore sit-down. Book ahead. The village of Panzano itself is charming and very quiet. Bear in mind you have a large dinner tonight — Dario DOC is the more sensible choice in that context.
~3:00 – 5:30 PM Afternoon — Wander & Rest

The afternoon is deliberately open. Check into the hotel, sit in the piazza with a coffee, or make the short drive up to Montefioralle — a tiny fortified medieval hamlet perched on the hill above Greve, just 1 km from town. It's almost completely unvisited (a few dozen residents), with a small Romanesque church, intact stone walls, and vineyard views in every direction. Takes 30 minutes to walk around; worth every one of them.

~18:20 Depart Hotel for Castello di Verrazzano

The castle is approximately 5 km from the hotel — about 10 minutes. Leave by 18:20 to arrive comfortably ahead of the 18:30 start. The estate road winds through vineyards; it's well-marked from the SP 49/Greve direction.

🅿 Castello di Verrazzano
Via Citille, 50022 Greve in Chianti — the estate has ample on-site parking. Follow signs from town toward Citille/Verrazzano.  Google Maps →
Confirmed · Sabato · 18:30 · ~3 Hours · €75/person

🍷 Cena in Fattoria — Castello di Verrazzano

A guided evening on a working Chianti Classico estate whose family name belongs to history: Giovanni da Verrazzano, the Florentine explorer who sailed for François I of France and first mapped New York Harbor in 1524, was born here. The estate has been producing wine continuously since the 16th century.

The evening begins with a guided tour through the Renaissance gardens and the aging cellars built into the hillside below the castle, followed by Spumante on the panoramic terrace. Dinner is a traditional Tuscan spread — charcuterie, pasta with wild boar, Florentine T-bone, seasonal sides, and dolce — served with a full flight of the estate's wines.

Sunday, June 7 Breakfast · Wander · Return to Arezzo
Morning Breakfast at Casa Al Sole

Breakfast is included at the hotel. No rush — this is the whole point of an overnight. The drive back to the Arezzo villa is 1 hr 15 min, so a midday departure puts you home in plenty of time for the afternoon.

~9:30 – 11:00 AM Sunday Morning Options
A
Greve Piazza & Enoteca Falorni
In town · 0 min
Sunday morning in Piazza Matteotti is quieter than Saturday — a good thing. Enoteca Falorni opens at 9:00 AM. Good for a bottle or two to bring back to the villa, or just a final espresso under the arcades before departure. Note: the 4th Sunday organic market falls on June 28 — not this weekend.
B
Panzano in Chianti — Morning
~8 km · 15 min
If you skipped Panzano on Saturday, Sunday morning is ideal — the village is sleepy and beautiful before the day visitors arrive. Dario Cecchini's shop opens at 10:00 AM. Pick up some tonno del Chianti (slow-cooked pork) or finocchiona to bring back to the villa.
C
Montefioralle (if skipped Saturday)
~1 km above Greve · 5 min
The tiny fortified village above Greve. A Sunday morning walk through an essentially unchanged medieval hamlet — walls, towers, vines, views. Very quiet. Thirty minutes well spent before the drive south.
~11:30 AM – Noon Depart for Arezzo Villa

Check out of Casa Al Sole (checkout by 11:00 — ask about a late 11:30 if needed) and head south on SR 69 through Figline Valdarno. You're back at the villa by ~12:45–1:00 PM with the whole Sunday afternoon still ahead.
